I was lucky enough to get a full ride to undergrad and grad school. However, I had a disability and it took me 10 years to finish my schooling. I majored in accounting in college because I thought I would be employable. Little did I know I got a high paying job in San Francisco almost making six figures out college but I was miserable. I took a 90 percent pay cut and went on to grad school. In the process I did 8 internships to land my first job that I liked. I started at 35k and slowly made my way up. But I enjoy what I do now as an Academic Advisor. I was fortunate enough to be +100k in assets when I graduated from grad school. I bought a condo in cash and was able to save 70 percent of income. Don’t believe there’s a short cut. Sure there are people who made businesses and are doing well but success rate is relatively low. Get back to your 9-5 and live frugally in a low COLA, invest difference in VOO and retire a decamillionaire.

In reply to Scott Biales. 4 Years later I'll update my status. I have grown that $450k to well over $1MM. Refinanced my college debt to a 3.05% 12-year fixed rate (back in 2018). Inherited money from inlaws and now are financially independent!
