thank you we will contact student loan individuals and see what we can do. My husband had a stroke on Nov. 1 2021. He has not returned to work and not sure when he will. Not sure how the permanent disability discharge works either. If you have any comments we will take them. thank you again

This was a feature to help those who needed cash during the pandemic vs. making student loan payments. Furthermore, our advice to borrowers was to NOT make payments and use that money to better their financial lives elsewhere – pay off credit cards or consumer debt, save for retirement, invest. There’s no reason to give the government any extra money that’s not legally required. Plus (while it won’t happen), there was a chance some loans might be forgiven. If that happened, you would have paid extra.

Well make sure you take advantage of programs you qualify for. For example, on income driven repayment, if you’re currently unemployed and have no income, your loan payment would be $0.
