I went to for profit school, given Sallie Mae option for loan (private), this school is on the Borrower defense list for eliminating Federal loans. Associate degree from this school, but school lost its accreditation, so I am unable to take the NCLEX for nursing which is degree I received. Also, now credits don’t transfer to another school due to no accreditation. I owed 40K private loan for no creditable degree and can’t work in nursing to even pay for loan. Contacted Navinet they won’t forgive loan. I’ve not gone into default; I continue to pay on this loan. Contacted GA attorney (only 2 in GA that handle loans) school attended in Jacksonville FL. FL attorney said I needed a GA attorney. Who else can I contact about eliminating private loans?

In reply to Jerry B. It's a question of what repayment plan you're on. Are you on an income-driven repayment plan that doesn't fully amortize the loan?

Began making payments on 70k worth of student loan debt from Nelnet in 2012. In 2017 one of my children went to school and it increased to 83k. I’ve been making monthly payments on time and regularly and now owe close to 90k. How is that possible? I feel like they’ve been taking advantage of me. What can I do?

In reply to Robert Farrington. I only have private loans. Please advise what happen if I were to file for bankruptcy. I’m hoping to restructure my loans or at least settle my debt.

In reply to Tony. Likely not if Federal loans. Judge will tell you to get on income-drive repayment and make low cost payments on your loans. And even more-so right now, interest and payments are suspended until September 30, 2020.
