Another great point that puts the Student Loan Interest Deduction in the scam box? Why phase it out?

Does the government really think that high earners have more student loan debt than lower income earners? I’d argue that the opposite is probably true – lower income earners have more debt since they can’t pay it off as easily.

What really bums me out is that is that only folks with an AGI of under $75,000 can deduct. WHY?! Why are people who make $75,000 or less better than those who make more?

What if you earn more and live in an expensive city and want to go to graduate school?

The discrimination is so rampant and disappointing.

In reply to Kurt @ Money Counselor. I think the same argument is true. It incentivizes debt and I think it inflates housing values.

I’ve never understood why we incentivize debt so much. Sure, it gives he economy a good shot in the arm short term, but it creates hell later….
