You’re considered an independent contractor. If you make over $600, Amazon will send your a 1099 which you report your income on your taxes.

How do taxes work for this? You mentioned signing up with your social security number for tax purposes. Do they automatically take out taxes from your check/payment like a lot of jobs do, or do you have to bookkeep and track everything yourself and have to obtain a form yourself, etc?

The $30 HITs you mention in your post are usually very complex and take hours, sometimes even days to complete, and they require lots of brain power, like writing a 3000 word text on some topic. I really have no time and brainpower to spend on doing those tasks. I think the rewards for the simpler HITs should be bigger, like $0.5 to answer a survey or something similar. And very often the simpler HITs are underpaid. I mean, $0.01 to answer a 3-4 page survey, I mean c’mon…

The best thing about this site is that it is completely free to join, and it is a completely secure site. One good feature about this is that you have the option to search for Hits that you want to do, depending upon how much they pay. So, if you only want to do Hits that pay a min of $0.25, you can search and get a list of those Hits.
