Private loans offer NO forgiveness options.

Parent PLUS has the potential to offer loan forgiveness, IF you consolidate the loans after graduation, get on a qualifying repayment plan, AND the parent who took out the loan works in qualifying employment (i.e. a non-profit or a teacher at a public school – not a charter or private school).

See this guide on Parent Loans to pay for college.

As divorced parents we will need to get either Parent PLUS loans or private loans to pay for her school. My ex-wife is a teacher and I work for a not for profit hospital. My daughter is planning on working in foreign service for the government. My question is, to be eligible for loan forgiveness will all 3 of us have to be with a qualified employer over the 10 years of repayment? Or, is it enough that her mother will be employed as a teacher for the 10 years of repayment?

It doesn’t have to halt it. You can still continue your rehabilitation payments.

I entered into a payment plan that would bring me out of default status in 9 months. I’m currently on my 5th month. Would this stimulus proposal halt my rehabilitation efforts? Or I can still make payments to come out of default?

There is no national deferment of car payments. Your bank/lender may offer hardship options if you ask.
