Honestly the only thing I can think of is to declare bankruptcy due to disability/lack of work. Really at this age you can’t just get rid of it and not have it affect your credit. If you could make enough consecutive payments over 10 years you may get some forgiven. I’d say unless it’s a private loaner, do not worry about it. no one in your family will be liable to repay it when you pass. They will just have to provide proof you passed and your loans will be written off. Even if you have a spouse, your spouse is not obligated to repay your loans. I’m hoping you had your parents cosign when you took them out, because some loaners will ask you to have a secondary financially responsible party and if that’s the case, and you put your parents, odds are they will not out live you. Therefore no one living will be harassed to repay your loans. I once had a coworker who’s dad died, and she had no relationship with him. he was a scumbag. Just left her when she was a baby. Well the credit card people would call her at work 5 times a day harassing her to repay his $20k in credit card debt. One day I picked up the phone and they asked for Kim, i told them that legally she is not liable to repay her sperm donors debt. She had no relationship with her sperm donor and if they continued to harass her Ii’d report them to the state.

She said she never received another call again. A lot of companies are hoping you are stupid and will pay the debt of others. So hopefully all your loved ones are smart and will tell the debt collectors to go F themselves.

I am 69 years old and will never be able to pay this amount.

University of Phoenix is on the list for the recently passed federal loan forgiveness that Biden passed. I would encourage you to check there.

Not specifically, but if you work for a qualifying employer in public service, you can get PSLF.

With that said, many large employers may also offer free training or student loan repayment assistance.
