Thank you!! No one has ever mentioned IRS tax liability on forgiven student/parent loans. That’s a huge issue many are ignorant about.

None of it is taxable until 2026. After 2026 (unless the law changes), the entire amount forgiven is considered taxable income for the Federal government. California does NOT consider IDR-related loan forgiveness to be taxable income.
