Nice to see the subjective factors you listed as those can be critical to actually completing and implementing a financial plan.

I would add the Garret Planning Network to the list of resources https://garrettplanningnetwork.com/. This is a group of fee-only planners who provide as-needed advice, many are also members of NAPFA. Speaking of NAPFA your readers should check out their guide to finding a financial advisor on the front page of their side, an excellent document that can be downloaded as well.

I strongly advise anyone looking to hire a financial planner to give some thought as to what they are looking for in terms of advice. Do you just need a quick consultation to get on track? Help allocating your 401(k)? A more in-depth financial planning review? Ongoing help with investments and other financial planning issues? A lot will depend upon the person’s stage of life. Are they just starting out? Been working for a few years? Married, kids? Young but a high earner?

I would suggest focusing on finding the right advisor first and then deciding on whether an online advisor or a more traditional advisor is the right fit.
