Remember, slightly entering another tax bracket doesn’t change your lower earnings. It only impacts that amount in the bracket. We all pay the same dollar amount on the $10k, etc. Read this on effective tax rates.

You’d have to do the worksheet, but the LTCG would push his ordinary income to $105k, making it 15%.

Wouldn’t the capital gain be 0%? Long-term capital gains for married filing jointly are zero for 0-78,750 in income. Or at least that’s what I’ve read.
