There are no “loan companies”. The Federal government is the lender. They get the money to lend to you through government-issued bonds, and then pass that money out in the form of loans.

If the government forgives the loans, they still have to pay back the debt – whether through tax dollars or other revenue sources.

So if the forgiveness were indeed clawed back, would the loan company have to give the FG their money back? I would think Trump would have no trouble clawing back a benefit (convention be damned), but would hesitate to cause problems for the financial sector.

Each school decides their own offer based on their own financial aid policies. You can ask if they meet need, have no-loan policies, etc. You’ll likely want to look at inexpensive options and have those discussions now so he can apply to schools you can afford.

Comment on Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (ESAs): Are They Worth It? by Jessica https://thecollegeinvestor.com/37481/coverdell-education-savings-accounts/#comment-481669 Thu, 21 Nov 2024 17:49:08 +0000 https://thecollegeinvestor.com/?p=37481#comment-481669 My mom set up a Coverdell for me a long time ago, and the account was forgotten. I am now 35. She wants to transfer the account into my daughters name and have me as the custodian. I want to roll the Coverdell into a 529. What is the order of operations to make this happen? Is it doable?
