You definitely need to keep making the minimum payments (especially since credit reporting and collections resumed). With that said, yes, you’ll receive a refund for payments made after 120.

After 90 days since your certification of the 120 payments, I would contact the ombudsman’s office to make sure things are processing.

I have made payments each month since July (4 additional payments). I am wondering if I should keep my autopay on until I receive notification from my loan servicer, MOHELA, that I no longer need to pay — or if I can cancel future autopayments now. Also, will I be reimbursed for paying over my qualifying requirements? Thanks!

Your past qualifying payments that you’ve certified would count, but current ones would not count. If you ever switch back to qualifying, you can resume.

Also, you must be working for a qualifying employer at the time of forgiveness.

So, if you teach for 7 years, then switch to another non-qualifying job for 2 years, but then go back to teaching for 3 more years, you’d hit your 120 monthly payments and be fine. However, if you never go back, you’ll have to pay off your loans another way.

You have to wait it out. Your consolidation happened during the waiver period so you’re fine on that front. But all PSLF processing is currently paused for a few months. You should see this update in September.
