That can run up the bill. It would save money to graduate in 4 years — or better yet, 3 or 3 1/2 years.

Here are your options for Parent PLUS Loans. We strongly recommend refinancing to a private company if you have assets and income, unless you’re still currently employed. In that case, it could make sense to look at programs like PSLF. Check this out: Options for Parent PLUS Loans.

He graduated and I let the thing go for awhile. Now I owe 250K as a parent… interest is 8% thru US Dept of Ed and Nel Net is the servicer. Im 69 and Im gonna start making 2K payments a month but with that interest rate its goning to pass away first. i need to refinance at lower rate and any US dpet of ed benefits I can get…rather than private company. How can I get in tough with a student loan (parent loan) lawyer who specializes in these things? i’ve asked and went down many rabbit holes for yrs. Can you advise. (IE: Say I have 100k balance when I pass, can US Dept of Ed attach my kids’ inheritance/ trust?, name of specialty lawyer, name of refinance company? thank you very, very much!!

Trade school is a great approach. Dismissed by too many. In fact, a lot of small business owners are in the trades and started this same way!

Trade school… $2200/yr, my employer paid for it (electrical school), made a lousy $14-20 while in school, came out making $38/hr as an essential worker. Don’t poo-poo blue collar jobs, when automation takes the desk jobs and register work, SOMEONE is going to be needed to install, upgrade, repair, and program those machines!
