You’d likely benefit the most from any of the income-driven plans. These will keep your payments minimal for the time being (and your federal loans will be deferred again when you start grad school).

However, please be careful with veterinary school. It’s very expensive, and sadly vets don’t always earn much after graduation (and forgiveness programs are rare since many vets don’t practice public service).

I am currently working making $17/hr for 40 hours a week. I am planning to attend veterinary school in Fall of 2025. My first payment is due in Nov 2024. What plan would work best for me?

See this guide: What To Do With Your Old FFEL Loans.

You likely want to consolidate the loan by December 31, 2023 so that you can be eligible for the repayment recount. That would likely see you be close to forgiveness (or at it).

I will not be getting any type of loan forgiveness at this current time. I figure if I set up the payment plan paying it in 10 years it would save me more in interest on the time I am paying them off. Just a lot to process.
