Graduate school can be a powerful way to improve your career trajectory. Whether you want to go to graduate school to propel yourself down your chosen career path or take your career in an entirely new direction, getting into the right grad school program can make all the difference.

Many graduate schools take Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores into account during the
admissions process. As with most standardized tests, getting a top score can be a challenge. But the right score could get you into the school of your dreams.

Magoosh Test Prep offers a way to prepare yourself for the GRE, with the goal of improving your score. We will explore what Magoosh Test Prep has to offer students preparing for the GRE.

What Is Magoosh Test Prep?

Magoosh Test Prep has been in the business of helping students prepare for the GRE for over 10 years. In that time, the company has helped millions of students prepare for the GRE. Although the company used to offer live classes, the current options are all pre-recorded.

What Does It Offer?

Let’s take a closer look at what Magoosh Test Prep has to offer.

Self-Paced GRE Preparation

Magoosh offers students a wide range of study tools to prepare for the GRE. When you purchase access, you can gain access to:

  • Eight sections of licensed official GRE questions
  • Pre-recorded video lessons
  • 1,600+ practice questions
  • Up to three practice tests
  • Coverage of Math, Verbal, and AWA sections

As a student, you can tap into these resources at your own pace. You won’t have to commit to particular class times to make the most of these study tools. If you have questions, you can reach out to an expert to clarify information throughout your studies. You can access these resources through your desktop or the mobile app.

While the resources are designed for a self-paced experience, Magoosh offers suggested study schedules to help you stay on track.

Score Improvement Guarantee

If you purchase a Premium plan, Magoosh offers a 5-point increase guarantee. However, the guarantee is only in effect if you originally scored 320 or lower. Students who don’t see at least a 5-point increase can get their money back.

Graduate School Application Support

In addition to GRE test prep, Magoosh offers graduate school application support. The support starts with a Grad Admission dashboard, which breaks down the task of submitting a strong application into smaller tasks. You’ll also find a step-by-step essay writing guide.

The support system includes over 40 expert videos designed to help you navigate the graduate school admissions process. If you want someone to review your application, a Magoosh Admissions Instructor can give you detailed feedback on written portions.

Are There Any Fees?

You can work with Magoosh on a monthly basis or pay for a bundle. It costs $149 to purchase a single month of the Premium package. If you want six months of access, you can pay $179. Students looking for both GRE test prep assistance and admissions support can choose a bundle for six-months of support at $199.

If you aren’t sure that Magoosh is the right fit, there is a free seven-day trial.

How Does Magoosh Test Prep Compare?

Magoosh Test Prep isn’t the only company offering GRE prep services. Here's a closer look at a couple of competitors.

Prep Expert is a testing and admissions prep service. It offers students admissions guidance and test prep for a range of standardized tests, including the GRE. Prep Expert offers one-on-one tutoring support for students preparing for the GRE. Unlike Magoosh, Prep Expert offers GMAT preparation. However, Prep Expert’s admissions support options are limited to undergraduates. Prep Expert packages tend to cost thousands of dollars, considerably more than Magoosh.

Ivy Wise offers both GRE test prep help and admissions support for graduate students. Students can find one-on-one tutoring options. Ivy Wise stands out with its admissions support options, but it comes at a steep cost of at least $1,000 per hour.

How Do I Open An Account?

You can open an account with Magoosh through the company’s website. Once you select a plan, or a free trial, you’ll be asked to create an account with your email and a chosen password. From there, you’ll be asked to provide payment details. When your account is open, you can start using the resources right away.

How Do I Contact Magoosh Test Prep?

If you need to get in touch with the company, you can email help@magoosh.com. You can also reach out over Facebook, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter).

The company boasts a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Trustpilot, which means you should expect a relatively positive experience with the company.

Is It Worth It?

Self-starters and students who prefer to study on their own schedule can find a lot of value through Magoosh. The ability to study at your own pace is especially valuable for students who are busy professionals or have other commitments on their schedule. Just know that unlike other test prep companies, Magoosh doesn't offer live classes, and expert support is limited.

When compared to other options, the support offered by Magoosh is relatively affordable. If you want help boosting your GRE score or a helping hand during the admissions process, Magoosh might be worth it.
